Fan boys and girls rejoice! Toho recently announced the two men who will be bringing the good ole' classic Japanese Godzilla back for the first time in 12 years: Shinji Higuchi and Hideaki Anno.

Those two names should ring a bell for those who are into anime and tokusatsu. Shinji Higuchi has served as Special Effects Director for Shusuke Kaneko's highly regarded GAMERA trilogy (1995-1999,) and is the Director for this summer's highly anticipated two-part live action adaptation of Attack on Titan. He has also worked on multiple other films and anime worth checking out. Higuchi will be Director and Special Effects Director for Godzilla.

Hideaki Anno is a big name in the world of anime. He is the creator and director of the groundbreaking Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, which he and Higuchi both worked on together, as well as served as director for the live action adaptation of Cutie Honey. Anno will be serving as Supervising Director and Writer for Godzilla.

These two men have been lifelong friends and big fans of tokusatsu and the Kaiju genre. Read more about Toho's official announcement and statements by both Higuchi and Anno at August Ragone's blog, The Good, the Bad, and Godzilla.
