Figure Review - Ultra-Act Ultraman Nexus Junis

Well, I swore before that I'd stop buying Ultramen in the Ultra-Act line, but I could not resist Nexus. I have not personally seen the Ultraman Nexus TV show, but the design for it is so darn good and I just had to have it. So here is my review for it.

So yes, this is Ultraman Nexus' Junis form. In the Nexus series, Ultraman had several evolutions: Amphans (Gray coloration), Junis, Blue Junis (a blue variation of Junis), and finally Noa. Frankly this one, Junis, is the best incarnation of Ultraman Nexus, period. I got this figure after seeing a bunch of the product photos. Since it is not like the rest of the Ultras that have been released in this line so far, I though I'd get it. So, was I happy with this figure? Let's find out...

Like all Ultra-Acts, Ultraman Nexus Junis stands at around six inches in height. There are 18 points of articulation on this figure - the head, neck, shoulders, arms, wrists, torso, midsection, legs, knees, ankles, and feet. This figure is also provided with a good amount of accessories, which I'll get to in a little bit.

Frankly, I am quite impressed with this figure. It certainly possesses some of the best detailing compared to the other Ultras released before it. The eyes are transluscent with a milky hue within them, which gives it some suit accuracy detail. Everything about this figure is finely detailed... right down to his tight buttocks (stupid sexy Nexus!)

On top of the fine detail on this figure, Nexus' articulation is not too shabby. Once you are able to loosen the joints a bit, he becomes really posable. It is really a neat figure to pose and since he has quite a bit of bulk on him compared to the other Ultras, his poses don't come off as too awkward.

Every Ultraman must have his beam accessories. Nexus Junis' beam is the Over-Ray Storm. It is a neat effect piece. It is also nicely detailed as well mixing in different shades of blue in its translucent molding.

I honestly have no clue as to what this effect is supposed to be. Remember, I didn't watch the show (yet). I assume this is some sort of energy attack or Nexus charging up his Over-Ray Storm. This is the only effect piece that I had a hard time with. It is confusing as to how to put it on the figure and more or less to keep it balanced on his arms. It just sits there, without anything for it to be plugged into (much like the beam effects for the S.H. MonsterArts King Ghidorah). It looks nice, but it's too much work for me to actually care.

And finally besides the energy effect parts and alternate pairs of hands, we also have Nexus' red orb, which signals low energy. Every Ultraman figure essentially provides this.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the Ultra-Act Ultraman Nexus Junis. It turned out to be a swell figure and one that really stands out in my collection. My overall rating for this guy is 4/5. If you're an Ultraman fan or just into cool looking figures of superheroes, I recommend this guy!
