Toy Review - Super Robot Chogokin Gurren Lagann

Lately I have been wanting to branch out into other toy lines from Tamashii Nations. Last year I dove into the Robot Damashii line with the Nirvash Type ZERO spec2 from the anime, Eureka Seven. Currently I have the D-Arts Mewtwo and Charizard on preorder, and the other day I reserved myself the Figuarts Iron Man and War Machine. Though I do own a few Chogokins from years ago (MechaGodzilla 2004 & '75, and Gigan '05), I have yet to get any of the recent ones. Being that I am such a huge fan of the anime, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, I decided to get the recently released Super Robot Chogokin Gurren Lagann figure.

I ordered this figure about a week ago and I just got it this morning. The box for it is much smaller than what I was expecting. That's actually a good thing since at the moment I am very conscientious about space right now. The design of the box is purely outstanding. It has the hard brushstroke kanji characters that perfectly mimic the style of the episode titles from the anime. It greatly represents the awesomeness that is Gurren Lagann!

The figure itself stands around six inches tall. To compare, it is just as all as the S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla action figure, which will be shown later on. There is a good mix of plastic and diecast bits in the sculpts, which is what I expected out of any of the Chogokin figures. The diecast metal is usually found in the lower parts of the body, allowing the figure to have a center of balance, eliminating the need to utilize a stand to prop up the figure. The detailing and paint apps on this figure are purely stunning, capturing the detail of the mech as seen in the anime series.

This figure comes with a good amount of accessories. To list them:

- Boomerang/glasses x2
- Hand gestures x3 pairs
- Alternate faces x2
- Wrist drills x2 pairs
- Jet pack

The accessories are neat and allow one to pose the figure in creative and iconic poses. Most notably is his 'heavenly reach' pose.

The Jet Pack that is included with the figure can be easily attached or removed. The way to do it is remove an armor plating in the back, revealing a couple of plugs. The pack easily snaps into those plugs and it is ready to go!

The pack increases the size and width of the figure making it look bigger than it seems. It also makes it feel much more complete when compared to displaying it without it.

Here is the Super Robot Chogokin Gurren Lagann displayed next to my S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla (Comic-Con Explosion) figure on my new 'General Tamashii Nations' shelf in my collection display (This is where I also intend to display my D-Arts and Figuarts figures as well when they arrive).

Overall, I was very satisfied and happy with this figure. The sculpt, details, paint, accessories, and articulation are nothing but stellar! I look forward to getting the accessory pack for this figure, the Drill Set of Manliness. My final rating for this figure is a solid 5/5 stars.

Who the hell do you think I am?
