Original Figure Review - X-Plus Toho 30cm Series Godzilla 1968

It comes as no surprise that the Godzilla suit from Destroy All Monsters (1968) became one of the defining designs for the King of Monsters in the Showa era of films (1954-1975). I originally had the X-Plus Toho Large Monsters Series Godzilla 1968 figure, but had sold it off several months ago. I traded up for the larger 30cm figure.

Was it worth it? Let's take a look...

Original Figure Review - X-Plus Toho 30cm Series Hedorah

Animals, God's animals
Don't go away, don't go
Flowers, my flowers
Don't go away, don't go
The sea has cobalt, it's full of mercury
Too many fumes in our oxygen
All the smog now is choking you and me
Good Lord, where is it gonna end?
Got to get it back, someday
Got to get it back, and soon now
For tomorrow maybe you and me
We're movin', we're movin', movin' to the Moon now
It's up to us to make a choice
We know what it's worth to save the Earth
Come raise your voice

Save the Earth!

You all know the words...

Original Figure Review - NECA Pacific Rim 7" Deluxe Axehead

NECA is notorious of releasing sculpts of the same exact figure time and time again. It came as no surprise when they announced that Axehead - the concept design of the Kaiju that would ultimately become Trespasser, the first Kaiju to make landfall in the early moments of Pacific Rim (2013) - would be released. A lot of people initially mistook Axehead as a cheap repaint of the already released Deluxe Trespasser action figure from early 2014, but it turns out that is not the case with this figure.

New Pics of X-Plus 30cm Godzilla 2014 & 25cm Mothra 1964

X-Plus displayed their prototypes for the upcoming Toho 30cm Series Godzilla 2014 - with a swappable neutral and roaring head (possibly the RIC exclusive for this figure) - and the Toho Large Monsters Series Mothra 1964 (albeit not a clear shot of it, but recognizable regardless,) at Super Festival 67 the other day.

No release dates have been announced yet, but Godzilla 2014 (and assuming Mothra too) will be released some time this year.

UPDATE: The placard for the Large Monsters Series Godzilla 1964 that was also displayed amongst the 30cm Godzilla 2014 and Large Monsters Series Mothra 1964 shows a March 2015 release date. It is possible that the Godzilla 1964 and Mothra 1964 figures are part of the RIC exclusive set initially announced last year.

Original Figure Review - NECA Pacific Rim Deluxe Action Figure - Knifehead

When NECA gave us a brand new sculpt for Knifehead (albeit battle damaged,) back in early 2013, I always imagined that they would reissue the sculpt without the battle damaged effects and once and for all replace the out-of-scale Series 01 Knifehead figure. We got our wish in Fall 2014 when NECA released their Deluxe Knifehead figure as a Toys R' Us Exclusive within the United States. However I was able to acquire mine via Amiami.com from Japan.

For those who have not seen Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim, Knifehead is a Category 3 Kaiju that the Jaeger, Gipsy Danger, piloted by brothers Raleigh and Yancy Becket, faced off the coast of Anchorage, Alaska. Prior, Kaiju used to be dealt with easily by Jaegers all around the world, but Knifehead is the first Kaiju to gain the upper hand intellectually against a Jaeger by disarming it and killing one of its pilots, Yancy Beckets, leaving Raleigh to pilot Gipsy solo.

Does this figure manage to replicate Knifehead's ferocity? Let us take a look and see!

Original Figure Review - NECA Pacific Rim 7" Figure Series 04 - Tacit Ronin

Tacit Ronin is the first Jaegers that was solely featured in the prologue portion of Pacific Rim (2013) to be released. This Jaeger was stationed in Japan to fight Kaiju who have emerged from the Breach. Other than material covered in the Pacific Rim art book, not much is known story-wise about this particular Jaeger.

However it is nice to see Tacit Ronin released with Romeo Blue and Horizon Brave not so far behind. Is Tacit Ronin another worthy addition into NECA's ever-expanding Pacific Rim 7" Figure Series? Let us find out!

Original Figure Review - NECA Pacific Rim Figure Series 04 - Hong Kong Brawl Gipsy Danger

After the lackluster Series 01 and 02 releases of Gipsy Danger, the lead Jaeger from the 2013 giant monster vs. giant mecha action flick, Pacific Rim, it was somewhat foreseeable that NECA would revisit her and bring collectors an entirely brand new and improved sculpt of the famed Jaeger.

NECA wished that their new Gipsy would be up to standards with their Pacific Rim figures beyond Series 03. Does it succeed at improving over the original sculpt? Let's find out together!

Closer Looks at NECA's Otachi!

We still do not know exactly when NECA's Pacific Rim Deluxe Otachi action figure will be hitting the market (hopefully some time very soon,) but until then here are a variety of pictures released by NECA giving us a closer look at this Category 4 Kaiju.

Original Figure Review - NECA Classic Godzilla Series 02 - Godzilla 1985

With 2014 being the 60th anniversary year for Godzilla, many companies in the United States jumped on board to release various figures and products of the King of Monsters. NECA was one of these companies to hop onto the bandwagon. Initially NECA was one of the companies that produced figures for Warner Bros' and Legendary Pictures' new Godzilla movie. However, they eventually revealed that they were producing a Classic Godzilla figure series. The first figure in this line was Godzilla 1994 from the film, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. We did not have a chance to review this figure at the time of its release, but I certainly had mixed feelings about it.

When it was announced that NECA would be doing a NECA Godzilla 1984/85 from the film, The Return of Godzilla (titled Godzilla 1985 in the United States,) fans were certainly excited for it. Once they released the initial product photos for the figure, people were pretty crossed. The head was too small, and hardly resembled that of the suit as seen in the movie. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't upset by it as well.  NECA received massive backlash from the fan base about the design. Due to this, they went ahead and provided a resculpted head that was much more faithful to that in the film.

Was the resculpted head enough to save this figure from any more criticism? Let's find out!

Original Figure Review - S.H. MonsterArts MFS-3 Kiryu Heavy Arms/High Mobility Type

First, let me just say Happy New Year! Secondly, this is my first figure review in a long while, and the first in many to come in 2015. Without further ado, let's begin...

X-Plus Posts Images of Painted Prototype For Their Toho Kaiju Museum Godzilla 2004

Recently X-Plus has posted a few images on their blog showing off their upcoming Toho Kaiju Museum Godzilla 2004 figure. It's essentially a miniaturized 10cm version of their 30cm figure, sculpted in polyresin. Previously, X-Plus has done Kaiju Museum pieces primarily for Ultraman. Godzilla 2004 is expected to release sometime in early 2015.
