Figure Review - Revoltech Yamaguchi Evangelion Unit 08 Beta

And so the final figure in Revoltech's main line of figures from Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo has finally reached my doorstep! This is our review for the Revoltech Yamaguchi Evangelion Unit 08 Beta.

The figure comes in the standard Revoltech window box with an image of the figure in the bottom left corner.  The purple wraparound on the bottom gives the packaging a bit of flare in my opinion. Based on what you can see, this figure comes with quite a bit as seen with the previous Evangelion figures released throughout this year. We'll touch upon that a little later.

S.H.MonsterArts Alien Warrior
$55.99 - Feb. 2014

A brand new series has debuted in the S.H.MonsterArts line!  From 2004’s Alien vs. Predator, the sleek reworking of the original Alien design has been accurately replicated in figure form, right down to the translucent head structure and bony armor plating.  Thorough research has allowed for superb detail in the sculpt, bringing out all the fine details almost impossible to see on-screen.  The segmented tail is the main attraction of this figure, with each section a separate poseable piece.  Adding to its ferocity, the tip of the already dynamic tail has then been sharply molded in diecast: lethal!  Accessories include a finely detailed egg chamber and the famous juvenile form of the Warrior, the chestburster.  The S.H.MonsterArts Alien Warrior represents a new pinnacle of excellence for Alien action figures.  Pose all together with the upcoming S.H.MonsterArts Predator Wold to experience all the non-stop action first hand.

S.H.MonsterArts Predator Wolf
$58.99 - Mar. 2014

The second figure in the Alien vs. Predator series has been revealed!  The Predator Wolf from the 2007 sequel film, “Alien vs. Predator: Requiem” joins the S.H.MonsterArts line in absolutely stunning detail.  A portion of the armor has been recreated in diecast metal, while the weaponry is molded in finely detailed ABS plastic.  PVC has been used to capture the correct look of the body, while the famed “dreadlocks” utilize soft PVC so as not to interfere with the posing.  The Predator’s signature mask can be removed just like in the film, revealing its grotesque organic face beneath.  Interchangeable mandibles allow it to either be displayed in normal or howling modes.  As an added gimmick, the classic Predator weapon, the wrist blade, can be displayed with either exposed or retracted.  This is the ultimate action figure portrayal of the ultimate Predator warrior.  Pose him alongside the S.H.MonsterArts Alien Warrior to get the maximum AVP experience.

Robot Spirits Hi-ν Gundam
$56.99 - Feb. 2014

Hi-ν Gundam mobile suit from “Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack - Beltorchika's Children” photo novel joins the ranks of Robot Spirits in intrepid form and massive proportion.  Replete with articulated gimmicks, this advanced robot action figure features workable funnel container, beam saber gimmick, as well as fin funnel barrier defense field portrayal via effect sheets.  A full array of armament accessories including Beam Sabers, the New Hyper Bazooka, Beam Rifle, and three sets of interchangeable hand parts are also featured in set.

Figure Review - X-Plus Toho Large Monsters Series Baragon 1965

Baragon, in his original 1965 design, receives another treatment in X-Plus' 25cm series of figures! Baragon is a monster who first appears in Toho's 1965 monster flick, Frankenstein Conquers the World, in which he is portrayed as an antagonist. He later goes on to make a small appearance in 1968's Destroy All Monsters alongside Godzilla and many of Toho's famous giant monsters. He wouldn't appear again until 2001's Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack in which he is one of the ancient Guardian Monsters alongside Mothra and King Ghidorah who must face against the return of Godzilla.

The new X-Plus Toho Large Monsters Series Baragon is quite a large figure. It is apparently bigger than its previous quadrupedal counterpart, a figure that I do not have. It stands between 9 to 10 inches tall. Due to the lack of spiky parts on this figure, I must admit, holding this figure is like cuddling with a soft vinyl teddy bear!

Figure Review - Revoltech Yamaguchi Evangelion Mark .09

"EVA Unit Zero?"
-Shinji Ikari, Evangelion 3.33 You Can (Not Redo)

The origins of Evangelion Mark .09 are shrouded in mystery. All that is known is that it is a Vessel of Adams and highly resembles the former Evangelion Unit 00, which was destroyed by the 10th Angel, Zeruel, in the climax of Evangelion 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance. The Mark .09 belongs to Rei Ayanami and uses it to retrieve the now awakened Shinji Ikari from the AAA Wunder and bring him back to the shambled ruins of NERV headquarters.

Continuing their line of Evangelion figures from the third film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series, Revoltech released the Evangelion Mark .09 in mid-September. The figure is another brand new sculpt, slightly different from August's Evangelion Unit 02 Gamma. It looks to be an upgraded version of the typical NERV Evangelion design as opposed to the radical upgraded designs of WILLE's Unit 02 and Unit 08.

Figure Review - S.H. MonsterArts MFS-3 Kiryu [MechaGodzilla]

From the very start, Tamashii Nations' line of super-articulated monster figures, S.H. MonsterArts, has primarily focussed on releasing creatures from the Heisei (1984-1995) series of Godzilla films, with the sole exception of Peter Jackson's King Kong. However, as of July we got our very first Showa (1954-1975) series figure in the form of Godzilla 1964, and now we have our very first Millennium (1999-2004) series figure in the form of the popular MFS-3 Kiryu... AKA, MechaGodzilla!

Kiryu also referred as MechaGodzilla is the third version of the character in the entire Godzilla franchise. Unlike previous MechaGodzillas, Kiryu is not entirely machine, but also implemented with organic components. It is actually built upon the skeleton of the first Godzilla from 1954. The S.H. MonsterArts MFS-3 Kiryu is one beautiful looking figure! The figure is based on the cyborg's appearance in the 2002 Toho film, Godzilla against MechaGodzilla. Diecast parts are implemented throughout this sculpt, more than any previous mecha released in the MonsterArts line. You have metallic parts from the feet, up the legs and onto its chest. The diecast metal adds some weight to this figure, giving it excellent balance to put it in a wide range of radical poses.
